In­de­pen­dence Bowl to kick off on Sun­day

On Au­gust 12, the In­de­pen­dence Bowl II will com­mence at the Amer­i­can School of Ulaan­baatar. Seven teams will be com­pet­ing in the tour­na­ment in­clud­ing one from the US Em­bassy in Ulaan­baatar. The competition is or­ga­nized by the Mon­go­lia Amer­i­can Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion and par­tic­i­pat­ing teams will con­sist of seven to eight mem­bers.

Flag foot­ball is made up of five play­ers on the field as op­posed to Amer­i­can Foot­ball, which has 11 play­ers. In the In­de­pen­dence Bowl, there will be one quar­ter­back, one cen­ter, two run­ning backs, two wide re­ceivers, and two to three sub­sti­tutes. Each team will get to face the other teams once and the team with the most wins at the end of the tour­na­ment will win the tour­na­ment. The first game will start at 11:00 a.m. and there will be the quar­ter­back and wide re­ceiver competition where one quar­ter­back and wide re­ceiver from each team will com­pete. The quar­ter­back competition will last 10-15 min­utes where each of them un­der one minute com­plete the as­signed tasks; hit­ting the tar­gets from 15 m, 20 m, 25 m, and 30 m. Each tar­get gets the player dif­fer­ent points start­ing with two points at 15 me­ters and with each as­cend­ing tar­get gain­ing the player one more than the pre­vi­ous one.

As for the wide re­ceiver, it is catch­ing the balls while stand­ing on the white line on their toes and to be­come the best wide re­ceiver, the player has to catch the ball from dif­fer­ent po­si­tions.
