Independence Bowl to kick off on Sunday
On August 12, the Independence Bowl II will commence at the American School of Ulaanbaatar. Seven teams will be competing in the tournament including one from the US Embassy in Ulaanbaatar. The competition is organized by the Mongolia American Football Association and participating teams will consist of seven to eight members.
Flag football is made up of five players on the field as opposed to American Football, which has 11 players. In the Independence Bowl, there will be one quarterback, one center, two running backs, two wide receivers, and two to three substitutes. Each team will get to face the other teams once and the team with the most wins at the end of the tournament will win the tournament. The first game will start at 11:00 a.m. and there will be the quarterback and wide receiver competition where one quarterback and wide receiver from each team will compete. The quarterback competition will last 10-15 minutes where each of them under one minute complete the assigned tasks; hitting the targets from 15 m, 20 m, 25 m, and 30 m. Each target gets the player different points starting with two points at 15 meters and with each ascending target gaining the player one more than the previous one.
As for the wide receiver, it is catching the balls while standing on the white line on their toes and to become the best wide receiver, the player has to catch the ball from different positions.
