Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Council reviews urgent issues
The Council of the Ulaanbaatar Mayor held a regular meeting on August 9 to respond to damages caused by severe flooding throughout Ulaanbaatar in recent days.
According to a report from the Capital’s Road Development Department, roads and streets were damaged at 86 location through Ulaanbaatar due to heavy rains, and the council decided to issue nearly one billion MNT to repair damaged roads and streets.
Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold instructed city officials to take urgent measures to repair damaged roads and streets, and relocate households and entities in flood hit areas, and review construction projects of public schools and kindergartens.
To minimize losses, 10 flood drainages and 50 dams were built at 10 areas with the highest risk of flooding. The council agreed to include funding for building more dams and drainages at vulnerable areas in the next year’s capital city budget.
During the meeting, Deputy Ulaanbaatar Mayor Sh.Ankhmaa reported that a number of projects to build or to restore schools and kindergartens are being implemented with funding from the state budget, soft loans from the Asian Development Bank, and non-refundable aid from the governments of Japan and China across the country.
The deputy mayor said that the capital’s government office plans to build 18 kindergartens this year. So far, five kindergartens are ready to receive children, and five are still under construction and need to be completed before September 1. The remaining eight will be completed within this year, city officials said.
