Defense minister discusses cooperation issues with delegates from Russia and ICRC
Minister of Defense N.Enkhbold received on Friday Russian delegates of a task force from a university of Russia’s Irkutsk City in charge of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Battles of Khalkhin Gol, which was set up by the government of Russia. They talked about schedules of events that will be held under the anniversary next year.
During their meeting, the sides agreed to host a meeting which will take place between the two countries’ task forces for the celebration in Irkutsk in September, and decided to discuss joint activities for the victory’s 80th anniversary celebration and its general plan during the meeting.
N.Enkhbold noted that as President Kh.Battulga, Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh and Speaker of Parliament M.Enkhbold, and their Russian counterparts all have agreed that the two countries will jointly celebrate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Battles of Khalkhin Gol next year, the two nations are concentrating on the remarkable celebration.
He added that the government of Mongolia has set up a task force led by Deputy Prime Minister U.Enkhtuvshin for the anniversary’s activities, and reported that the task force held its first meeting.
RED CROSS
As N.Enkhbold serves as the president of the Mongolian Red Cross Society, he held a meeting with Deputy Head of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Regional Delegation for East Asia Larry Maybee on Friday at the State Palace to discuss cooperation between Red Cross Society and Mongolia.
The Deputy Head thanked the government of Mongolia, the Ministry of Defense and the Mongolian Red Cross Society for collaborating with ICRC to promote international humanitarian activities.
During the meeting, N.Enkhbold discussed ongoing progress and results of the establishment of a group in charge of the implementation and promotion of International Red Cross’ legal status and laws in Mongolia with the ICRC delegation.
N.Enkhbold told Maybee that the group is going to be established soon and as the state approves its regulations, the group will begin its operation.
Maybee noted that Mongolia is a good example to other countries as its soldiers participating in international peacekeeping operations strictly adhere to the International Red Cross’ laws.
He added that the ICRC is looking forward to strengthening its collaboration with the government of Mongolia in many areas to make the current cooperation more effective and active in the future.
