Democratic Party sets up temporary committee to monitor internal affairs

- By L.MISHEEL

On June 25, the Democratic Party (DP) held a press briefing on the 2020 parliamentary election. Members of DP set up a temporary committee to monitor DP's internal affairs. Particularly, the committee is being set up to change the party's leadership in accordance with its internal rules and to ensure the party's internal affairs are in order, following its defeat in the 2020 parliamentary election.

Member of DP B.GanErdene said, “It is questionable whether the current leadership, which led to the party's defeat, will be held accountable according to the rules and whether it will be able to reorganize quickly. Therefore, we declare that we have established an ad hoc committee to ensure the internal democracy of DP, considering that it is very important not only for the party but also for Mongolia's democracy to monitor future activities and organize reforms properly.”

DP member M.Tulgat noted that the party lost because it could not fulfill its role as an opposition and lacked internal democracy.

“We need to reform the party. The public is dissatisfied with DP. According to the party's charter, the party's chairman, deputy chairman and general secretary will resign as soon as the election results are announced.”

On Thursday evening DP Chairman S.Erdene announced he will step down to take responsibility for the election defeat.
