Visit the Okambashu Restaurant and Oshebeena Bar – the decor is a treat. Camping R175 p.p. (power points available). Other accommodat­ion at Safari Camp from R967 per adult sharing (B&B). A brandnew campsite: R150 p.p. sharing (maximum six people per stand). They have a restaurant, bar, shop and swimming pool. Double room from R720 p.p. sharing; a chalet (sleeps two) from R810 p.p. sharing and a family chalet (sleeps four) from R870 p.p. sharing. ( The chalets closest to each camp’s waterhole cost more.)

Etosha’s two luxury options are Dolomite (in the far west): chalets from R1 430 p.p. sharing and Onkoshi (in the north-east): chalets from R1 650 p.p. sharing. Rates include breakfast and each camp has its own restaurant.

Olifantsru­s camp in the western section of the park is for campers only: R280 p.p. sharing. Ask for stand no. 10 – it’s spacious, with lots of shade and it’s also right next to the waterhole. Rates to increase in July.

Sachsenhei­m is cosy, with a swimming pool, Wi-Fi and a lazy watchdog called Lisa. The campsite has stands on grass and the accommodat­ion units are comfortabl­e. Camping R137 per adult; R80,50 per child aged 5 – 10. Stand with private ablution facilities R189 p.p. You pay R52,50 extra for a caravan stand. Single room R735 p.p.
