Nambwa Community Camp

About 20 km south-west of Kongola, on the western bank of the Kwando. You need a 4x4. The campsite has four stands and hot water, but no power. Camping R250 per adult; R125 for children aged 6 – 12. Lots of game moves through the area and it is considered one of the best birdwatchi­ng spots in the country. GPS: S17.87499 E23.31760

(It’s easy to reach, like most places on the eastern side of the Kwando River.) Private stands with ablution facilities R230 p.p. Other stands R165 p.p. At night a hippo might come and mow your lawn and there are crocodiles, so be careful near the water. Besides snakes, however, there aren’t other dangerous animals to worry about. The campsite has ablution and braai facilities but no power points: R130 per person. Selfcateri­ng safari tent R280 per adult; discounts for children under 12. Mopane firewood R20 per bundle. The camp is about 30 km south of Kongola next to the C49.
