CHOBE RIVER

-

Things to see and do? When it comes to the rivers in the Caprivi, things get complicated. The Kwando becomes the Linyanti where it borders Botswana, which turns into the Chobe at a later stage. Even though the best part of the Chobe is in Botswana around Kasane, there is one lodge on the Namibian side: Camp Chobe.

If you have time, drive west to Lake Liambezi. The lake has run dry, but it’s still very scenic.

Will I see game? You’re not in a national park, but the floodplains are vast and animals like elephants often wander over from Chobe National Park in Botswana.

How will it fit into my itinerary? Overnight here on the way to Zambia or if you’re carrying on to the Zambezi in Namibia. Camp Chobe (p 124) is close to the Ngoma border post.

Fuel? In Katima Mulilo or Kasane (Botswana).
