Rape suspect, police officer appear for bribery

WALVIS BAY - A police officer and a manager at a Walvis Baybased car dealership were arrested last week by the Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly trying to bribe a public prosecutor in Swakopmund.

Simon (48) and Farhan Khatri (31) a Pakistani national, made their first appearance in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for allegedly trying to bribe a prosecutor with N$58 000 to have Khatri’s passport released.

Khatri who is currently out on N$20 000 bail had his passport initially confiscate­d in 2018 after he was arrested along with two women Jaezuruka Kamongua, also known as Beverly (27) and the 24-year-old Melody Ortner.

The two women allegedly recruited underage girls for Khatri.

It is alleged that between May 2018 and Jy July 2018, , the two accused cused females trafficked the victims ctims for sexual exploitati­on.

As a result, Khatri was arrested and had his travel documents confiscate­d and in the possession of the prosecutor.

Crime investigat­ions coordinato­r for Erongo, Deputy Commission­er Erastus Iikuyu said the suspects pal leg ed lygy approached the prosecutor to have the documents returned in exchange for money.

The duo according to Iikuyu were arrested and while the passport and the cash were recovered by the police.

They y were both denied bail by y magistrate Nelao Brown during their first court appearance.
