Namib Laboratories roped in for Covid-19 testing
Namib Laboratories has confirmed that it received an official authorisation letter from the ministry of health to conduct Covid- 19 testing. As a result, one of the rooms at laboratories was converted into a fully functional PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) laboratory to assist the ministry with Covid-19 testing. The facility will be adept to analyse at least 94 tests per day with a 24hour turnaround time for results.
NamibLaboratories,asubsidiary of Feedmaster, was established in 2018 and currently conducts all microbiological, serological and PCR related diagnostic tests for the
Namib Mills Group of companies.
“While part of the reason for this addition to Namib Laboratories is to ensure that the Covid-19 risk to our staff, business and sister companies are managed, it is also a great honour for us to assist the ministry in its current need for testing facilities during the global pandemic,” read a statement from
Namib Laboratories.
The statement continued that Mary Mataranyika from the ministry of health and Dr Susanne Beard from the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) assisted the company with the correct measures and procedures to get the lab up to standard and to generate accurate results.
“We have state of the art equipment and well-trained staff. We will also conduct our SADCAS audit at the end of November, which will be a huge accomplishment for us. We believe that we can be of great help to all institutions, especially the veterinary sector of our country,” the statement concluded.
