Agribank training helps Omuthiya farmers
Farmers in the Omuthiya constituency of the Oshikoto region say they were enlightened by an information-sharing session held by Agribank on Friday.
Among those Nampa spoke to after the workshop held at Omuthiya was Selma Nangula who farms with cattle and goats and said sessions of this nature are helpful and eye openers to farmers.
“It was fruitful, I learned about different vaccines and types of feed to give to my animals per season,” Nangula said.
Nangula, a pensioner, added that the session will help the village to strengthen its farming association.
“We learned a lot and we have to organise ourselves and implement what we harvested from this workshop,” she said.
Another farmer from Onakasino, Miriam Omonigbehin, said the workshop was a welcome event for the small farmers in her communal area.
“There is so much information that we are lacking in terms of animal feed production and management, animal health and much more that we can learn to improve communal farming, thereby improving food production in Namibia,” Omonigbehin said.
She added that she will encourage fellow villagers to come up with platforms to share ideas on farming.
“This will help us to acquire training sessions and improve our produce,” she said.
The one-day workshop covered topics such as farm planning, livestock marketing, health, licks, feeds and the importance of water to livestock.
A similar workshop was held in Ongwediva on Thursday. – Nampa
