NAMAs predictions: weekend eight

The 7th edition of the Namibia Annual Music Awards virtual show was DRAMATIC! I predicted Rose Blvc would win Album of the year by virtue of her producer Hoppy Mwiya winning Best Producer of the year and she indeed won the category.

I predicted Adora would make history by winning the biggest honour on the table for a female musician...the Female Artist of the year category for the first time in her professional solo career but the judges are of the opinion that Rose Blvc did more than Adora in 2019/2020.

I predicted a Sunny Boy win in the Best Male artist of the year category but KP Illest made history by becoming the only other Hip Hop musician to win the category after Jericho.

I predicted that Lize Ehlers would gracefully surrender her crown as the biggest artist in the country to PDK in the Artist of the year category but again according to the judges, Rose Blvc had the biggest year in the land of the brave!

Rose Blvc, according to the judges is the biggest artist in the country. According to the judges, Rose Blvc was fully booked during the review period of 2019/2020. According to the judges, Rose Blvc had endorsements. According to the judges, Rose Blvc had interviews lined up from here until Usakos. According to the judges, Rose Blvc’s music was playlisted on every single radio station. According to the judges, Dj’s in the club could not finish a set without spinning a Rose Blvc record. According to the judges, Rose Blvc was in the papers for one or other reason throughout the year. According to the judges, Rose Blvc can fill a stadium right now! Komesho.

Another lousy score of 1/4. Let’s look at the final edition of the Namibia Annual Music Awards and final edition of the NAMAs... period.

The nominees for Best Best Newcomer are Cassidy Karon for 80’s Mercedez, DJ Castro for Evolution, Ethnix for Made In Namibia (MIN), Joharetha for Attata, Rose Blvc for Forbidden Fruit. This is going to be a real dog fight. My analyses are pointing to Dj Castro but Rose Blvc won some of the biggest categories so far. How can she not be the best newcomer? It won’t make any sense to say Rose Blvc had the biggest 2019/2020... but cannot scoop the Best Newcomer. Rose Blvc is new. Hence 1 + 1 is togoba 2. Rose Blvc will continue to collect as she will be crowned Best Newcomer.

The nominees for Artist of the Decade are Blossom, Exit, Gazza, Lize Ehlers, The Dogg. A category established to celebrate the artist who has the most NAMA accolades collectively over the 10 years of the event. I think this pretty much answers who will win this category right? I mean how weird would it be if anyone else but Gazza wins this category? Abuti GMP is a 17-time winner! The most in NAMAs history! Numbers don’t lie.

Also, can I just say that one will never win with Namibians? Namibians will complain that the same old faces win at the NAMAs. However, when a newbie wins, the same Namibian will complain that they do not even know the artist.

It’s been a rollercoaster 10 years. The next edition of Industry Loop will be a tribute to the Namibia Annual Music Awards.
