Mega action at Tony Rust Race Track tomorrow

-

THE Windhoek Motor Club (WMC) will host its first event of the year at the Tony Rust Race Track on the outskirts of Windhoek tomorrow. The club stopped all its motorsport activities at the beginning of April 2020 - just a week before their first race of the season, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

WMC said they have received permission from the Namibia Motorsport Federation and Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) to host the event after the state of emergency came to an end and restrictions were relaxed.

“We are really excited to be able to open up the circuit again and offer racing to the public and competitors. On 31 October 2020, the Windhoek Motor Club will be hosting a club event where we will be racing again for the first time in 2020,” reads the statement.

WMC said it will for the first time mix up the racing with circuit and karting taking place at the same time. “We will have one circuit race and then a karting race, and then the circuit again, just to mix things up a little and offer the spectators something unusual and exciting for this event,” it added.

The event will start with qualifying for circuit cars at 11h00, then qualifying for karting heats. “To spice things up a little we have decided to offer ‘production classes’ to the circuit where anyone with a roadworthy car can enter. You can bring along your car and get a feel of the exhilaration of racing around a well-known race track in your own car,” added the statement, which also said there will be no race cars in the production race. After all the races scheduled for the day have concluded, there will be a drag race where production cars will also be allowed to enter. Entry fees for the opening race of the year will be N$100 per person and all Covid-19 protocols must be adhered to. – Nampa
