Boxing fanatics in the north are in for a big treat when the MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club hosts its first amateur boxing bonanza for this year at Oshakati this weekend at the town’s Independence Stadium.

The northern-based boxing club resumes activities tomorrow with the amateur boxing jamboree, after protracted months of inactivity due to the widespread Covid-19 pandemic that brought all sporting events to a halt countrywide.

Tomorrow’s event will see a swarm of upcoming talented boxers from five regions squaring off at Oshakati’s Independence Stadium, where they will compete for top honours and bragging rights in the various divisions. The five participating regions are hosts Oshana, Oshikoto, Ohangwena, Omusati and Kunene.

Head of the MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club, Joseph Benhard, yesterday told New Era Sport that all logistics are well in place and that they are ready to host the event, saying tomorrow’s bonanza will serve as a perfect springboard for the upcoming pugilists to showcase their talents.

“This boxing bonanza will help those young boxers looking to turn professional. We are calling on all boxing fans in the north to come in large numbers and support the boxers who will be showcasing their talent. We are also calling on business people in the north to come through and support this great initiative. Preparations are well in place and we are just looking toward to the night fight. We have decided to charge N$50 at the gate and will not be able to accommodate a lot of people due to government’s Covid-19 rules and safety regulations,” Benhard said.
