‘Swapo has a lot to defend’ NAMIBIA VOTES 2020

- Kuzeeko Tjitemisa

Swapo district coordinator for Windhoek West constituency Vaino Shivute has urged the party faithful to fight like defending champions ahead of this month’s regional council and local authority elections.

“When you are a defending champion, you have something to lose. But when you are the challenger, you have very little to lose,” he said while speaking during a campaign rally on Saturday.

“We have taken note of the number of groups and political formations that have come up to challenge our position. These groups have very little to lose. If anything, they will be able to say ‘we have tried’.

However, when it comes to Swapo, we have a lot to defend. We have a history; we have a legacy, and we want to ensure that our values and everything we stand for is bequeathed to future generations. That is why we need to work much closer with the youth to ensure continuity in the future.”

The rally was addressed by Vice President Nangolo Mbumba, who also urged the party leaders and members to put their differences aside and make Swapo bigger than it is.

“Swapo is the party of the people; it is a big institution – make this bigger than it is,” Mbumba said.

He also advised young party leaders such as party candidate for the Windhoek West constituency Emma Muteka to be professional at all times.

On her part, Muteka urged the constituency residents to vote for the party, saying it has a proven track record of service delivery. “As I am handed over the basin of leadership, I will collectively continue to address the issues in our community with renewed change and revitalised energy,” said the 30-year-old Muteka.

Swapo candidates for both the local authority of Windhoek and Khomas regional council were also introduced at the rally. - ktjitemisa@nepc.com.na
