Young Warriors training squad for Cosafa announced

… as coach Britz takes charge

Regular campaigner­s Promise Gurirab, Steven Damaseb, Prins Tjiueza and Edmar Kamatuka are some of the familiar faces dominating the huge training squad announced by national U/20 team coach James Britz, as Namibia continues to intensify its preparatio­ns for this year’s Cosafa U/20 Men’s Cup.

The Young Warriors, as Namibia’s U/ 20 side is affectiona­tely known, are set to partake in next month’s much-awaited Cosafa U/20 Men’s Cup, which will take place between 3-13 December in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The provisiona­l squad will commence with training today at the Namibia Football Associatio­n (NFA) Technical Centre in the capital.

Namibia is in Group B alongside defending champions Zambia, Malawi and Comoros

Islands, and will see them kick off their campaign against Zambia on 4 December before taking on Malawi on 7 December. The Young Warriors will then move on to conclude their group outings with a clash against islanders Comoros on 9 December.

Group A compr i ses South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Lesotho, while the three-team Group C is led by Angola, Botswana and eSwatini.

This year’s Cosafa U/20 Cup will serve as a zonal qualifier for the 2021 Caf U/20 Africa Cup of Nations, with the two finalists in the competitio­n booking their place at the continenta­l showpiece.
