Unborn lives matter too

-

Life of a human begins at conception when male and female gametes unite to form a zygote. This is biblically true and approved by scientists, biologists and researchers.

Aborting is an act by which one terminates the process of human development that already began – and most often, there is already implantation of the embryo in the uterus of the mother, a heavenly designed connection of the mother with her unborn child. Abortion is an attempt to separate the two, which is impossible to do without the shedding of blood of the innocent unborn child. For the life of flesh is in the blood, Leviticus 17:11.

More than 90% of Namibians are Christians, which means they profess to live by God’s principles and take the Bible, God’s Word as the ultimate authority over their conducts and decisions. As a Christian nation, our biblical values, standards, principles and beliefs do not allow us to terminate life (Proverbs 6:17).

The Bible clearly indicates that God views the unborn child as a human being, whose life has a purpose and upon whom God has a plan for in this world (Jeremiah 1:5; Luke 1:31-33).

If safe abortion saves the lives of women, then not legalising abortion will save the lives of many unborn babies.

All lives matters. Life inside the womb must be protected and not destroyed.

Unborn babies are innocent; they are not the problem. Let us face the real problem here. We should answer the question as to why the pregnancy is unwanted? Is it a result of fornication? Extra-marital affair? Incest? Lack of finances due to youth unemployment? All these causes are the problems; hence, our target should be the cause – not the results. As long as the cause is not dealt with, the unwanted results will always be guaranteed.

Abortion in any form poses a long-term negative impact on the psychosocial wellbeing of the one who indulges into it. The regret, guilt, depression, suicidal ideation, alcohol and drug abuse, increased risk of infertility and ectopic pregnancies etc are all aftermaths of abortion. So we see that Abortion in its nature is not a solution. Legalising abortion is like solving a problem with another problem, which is even worse than the first.

To solve the problem of unwanted pregnancy in our country, Namibia is a Christian nation – strengthen the spiritual life of a Namibian child, to abide by the precepts of the bible.

We should intensify educating our young women and teenage girls of the importance of abstinence, use of contraceptives, family planning etc., through the media, going into the community and reaching out to those in deep villages, and through other means possible.

Provide adequate contraceptives in hospitals and health centres.

Should unpl anned/ unwanted pregnancy occurs, let there be Psychosocial and spiritual support to the victim, and to help prepare her to accept the child in her womb.

Make the provision of adoption centres throughout the country and let them be accessible to everyone. Better let the child live than kill the child.

We should also solve the problem of youth unemployment, which is expected to reach 48.8% by the end of 2020.

All these solutions are logically possible and without doubt, if implemented, helps preserve both the life of the mother and her child without later complications that may be life-threatening.

We implore the Namibian nation, both MPs, members of the community, and religious leaders to stand up against the act of terminating unborn lives.

They too are human who need to live and fulfil the purpose of their creation here on earth. The unborn lives matter too!
