Upbeat Warriors leave for Mali

A 25-man Brave Warriors squad yesterday left for Bamako ahead of their 2021 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) first leg qualifier clash against the Eagles of Mali this coming Friday.

Warriors’ interim coach Bobby Samaria yesterday morning announced his final 25-man squad to face Mali following a marathon training camp in the capital, which saw Samaria and his technical team trying out various combinatio­ns and working around the clock to

bring the players fitness levels to a satisfacto­ry state.

The well-blended Warriors side, which boasts a total 10 foreign-based players, will be under the trusted capt captainshi­p of the enterprisi­ng Petrus Shitembi, who will be deputise deputised by the

evergreen Peter Shalulile. The reserve leg of the qualifiers is slated for Windhoek on 17 November and the team is expected back home on Saturday well ahead of time to prepare for the second leg.

Namibia, who are in Group A of the 2021 Afcon qualifiers alongside Mali, Chad and Guinea, are currently stationed third on the log with three points. Guinea and Mali are both topping the group with four points apiece, while Chad remains bottom with no point.

Lloydt Kazapua, Virgil Vries, Edward Maova, Ryan Nyambe, Ananias Gebhardt, Riaan Hanamub, Emilio Martin, Vitapi Ngaruka, Larry Horaeb, Denzil Haoseb, Peter Shalulile, Deon Hotto, Dynamo Fredericks, Teberius Lombard, Petrus Shitembi, Immanuel Heita, Obrey Amseb, Absalom Iimbondi, Marcel Papama, Alfeus Handura, Elmo Kambindu, Hendrik Somaeb, Panduleni Nekundi, Salomon Omseb and Benson Shilongo.
