Possible serial rapist strikes again

WALVIS BAY – The Walvis Bay police are searching for a man believed to be a serial rapist after a 28-year-old woman was raped in Kuisebmond early Saturday morning. This is the fourth woman that has been raped since October at the town.

Two attempted sexual assaults have been reported in a matter of weeks in Kuisebmond - all targeting women living alone in shacks according to the police.

A close source to the case yesterday told New Era the suspect this time around was allegedly dressed as a factory worker when he broke into the woman’s shack.

“She woke up to the masked and armed rapist standing in front of her bed, pointing a gun to her head,” the source said.

According to the source, the man demanded sex, but the woman refused.

“The suspect then decided to violate her anally,” a police source said yesterday.

Crime investigations coordinator for Erongo, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu on Saturday confirmed the rape, saying the suspect allegedly broke into the shack around 03h30.

“The victim was fast asleep when the suspect entered her shack and raped her at gunpoint. She was also staying alone like the previous victims,” Iikuyu said.

According to Iikuyu, the suspect is described as a middleaged person, medium height and dark in complexion.

Meanwhile patrols in the Tutaleni and Kuisebmond areas have been intensified in an effort to catch the suspected rapist.

Iikuyu also indicated the suspect is not yet identified and that the investigation team is hard at work using all possible means to identify and arrest him.

“The police again urge residents to be on high alert, especially women that stay alone and assist the police in identifying the suspect,” he said.
