‘Prioritise, don’t promise’

- Steven Klukowski

KEETMANSHOOP – Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) candidate for the Keetmanshoop local authority has vowed to restore the dignity of residents if elected in this month’s elections.

Willem Gert Eiman (53) said it was dangerous for a political party to make promises to the electorate when campaigning, as one never knows what you will find in the office once in power.

“We, as IPC will rather inform citizens on what activities we will prioritise if we emerge victorious during polling,” he explained.

Outlining these priorities, Eiman said the most crucial one will be that of providing people with title deeds to own land or residential erven.

“Through this, they can take ownership and start building their own residential structures within means of their affordability,” he added.

As a strategy to prevent water disconnections, he said, IPC will instead come up with a system of lowering water supply pressure to resident’s homes whereby it will still be available but at a very slow pace.

“This in turn will force citizens to become more responsible in using water and paying for it,” Eiman explained.

“We will furthermore, as part of restoring the dignity of our people engage the relevant stakeholders to set up a rehabilitation centre to deal with substance abuse in the region.”

Eiman also said their party will encourage and attract more foreign investments to expand businesses in town in order to create more employment and generate the needed capital.

“Both the Keetmanshoop municipal dumpsite and abattoir, due to the smells and fumes coming from there are unhygienic risks for our residents as it is situated within the borders of Keetmanshoop and we will, as a priority relocate these sites to other areas outside town,” he said.
