Swapo to continue Kunene dominance – Mbumba
OPUWO - The ruling Swapo par ty wil l again continue with its dominance in the Kunene region come 25 November 2020, Vice President Nangolo Mbumba has assured.
Mbumba gave the assurance while addressing a Swapo rally at the Newman Katuta stadium in Opuwo on Saturday, where he stated that the ruling party was and will remain a force to be reckoned with in the region. Mbumba told the party’ sympathisers and supporters in attendance that: “Voters, please vote and support the candidates that you have chosen from your region and hold them accountable for their promises should they fail to deliver.”
He also cautioned party front-runners that, gone are the years when Namibians lived in their traditional selves of not upholding leaders accountable, saying that citizens have woken and would not tolerate such, as they now demand houses and better life styles.
“Candidates should know that should they emerge victoriously, they have a duty to uphold as people are demanding services”, added Mbumba.
He also urged contesting candidates to leave no stone unturned during campaigns should they want to emerge victoriously and remain in power for years to come while warning party members to do away with party colours on 25 November, as the voting day is a day of national equality where everyone votes for the betterment of their respective localities and constituencies.
“Voting is not campaigning,” he said.
On his part, Swapo’s Kunene regional coordinator, Tuarungua Kavari stated that the party [Swapo] did more in its first five years of governance in the region compared to other parties who dominated since independence.
“Development under Swapo, especially in Opuwo is evident in our first five years in this constituency. Some opposition parties governed this region for 25 years since 1992 but they did nothing, therefore vote for Swapo for continued development and prosperity,” noted Kavari.
The rally that was attended by more than 500 people also introduced Swapo candidates for both the local authorities of Opuwo and Kunene.
