Telecom Namibia (TN) last week confirmed the commencement of recruitment for vacant executive positions. TN Board Chairperson Jerry Muadinohamba also stated the board is focusing on positions that will become vacant within the next 12 months.

Speaking at a media briefing at TN headquarters in Windhoek, Muadinohamba said no company can function effectively in the absence of a complete leadership team. “We, thus, want to avoid a situation where positions become vacant and are not filled within the shortest possible time.”

Available executive positions are head of internal audit and risk management, company secretary, chief human resources officer, and head legal and regulatory affairs. The board chairman noted that the positions of chief human resources officer and head legal and regulatory affairs will only become vacant sometime during the next year.

“Recruiting timeously will allow for a thorough and smooth handover of function while ensuring there is no void in the position for an extended period once the term of office of these two employees come to an end,” said Muadinohamba.

At the same media briefing, Muadinohamba revealed that TN employee Jinah Buys was found not guilty following disciplinary charges instituted against her for purported negligence and failure to carry out her duties in terms of the company’s policies with regards to a Canocopy matter.

“Buys has been found not guilty on all charges levelled against her by Telecom Namibia Limited and has since resumed duties,” Muadinohamba stated.

Buys was suspended from October 2018 to June 2020 while two other executives implicated in the matter have since resigned. They were the company’s chief financial officer Robert Offner and head of internal audit and risk management Ben van der Merwe.

Buys said, last week, she was delighted that the board has entrusted her with her job back after a very difficult time she went through that made her career questionable.

“I am very pleased with the way the board welcomed me back. I am also happy that the law proved all doubts that were around my name and I am now clean at work,” said Buys.
