Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) has played host to what is to be an annual festival ‘SPYL Pop-Up’ with over a hundred of the party’s young members in attendance and a variety of shows, exhibitions and stalls showcasing various products.

The two-day event, which took place in Katutura recently, is aimed at celebrating the membership of the youth wing of Swapo party, provide entertainment and create opportunities for entrepreneurs to showcase their businesses.

Speaking to Entertainment Now!, the SPYL administrator, Tarah Shiwayu, clarified that the event is meant for young Swapo party members, however, that does not restrict the attendance of elders.

“Our focus is to show the public that young people are still in Swapo party,” Shiwayu said.

According to him, SPYL has become the transmitting belt of the Swapo party ideology and programmes.

“We have a huge responsibility to create various platforms for young people in the party to interact and share opinions with the leadership,” he said, adding that such events will create a conducive environment where they can show the public they are still active and progressive.

He added: “It’s not all about entertainment but we are harmonizing our members from different cultures.”

Shiwayu stated that despite a lot of events that happened that weekend and the political tension around the country, the pop-up event

turned out successful.

“The support we got was overwhelming but unfortunately, we had to close early. This time we only had a live DJ but, in the future, we will be having various artists to perform,” he said, expanding that the coming events will be bigger and better.

“There will be more activities. From exhibitions, sport, entertainment to lecture series,” he said.

Shiimi, one of the exhibitors, excitedly said the event created an opportunity for him as an entrepreneur to make some income.

Another vendor also commended organising committee for such an initiative.

“We are happy that our party is creating means to empower young people,” she said. the
