KEETMANSHOOP – Newly elected chairperson of the //Kharas Regional Council says he was humbled to be entrusted with the responsibility of leading the region to greater heights.

Joseph Isaacks, who hails from the Landless People’s Movement (LPM), was yesterday named new regional council chairperson.

“I am humbled by your confidence in me and pledge to lead this region with diligence, trust and honesty,’’ said Isaacks following the swearing-in ceremony, which was presided over by Keetmanshoop magistrate Uchen Konjore.

Isaacks further explained that it is now time for all regional councillors to unite their efforts as one team.

“We have a common obligation and responsibility to develop our region for the benefit of our people,’’ added the Keetmanshoop Urban councillor.

The chairperson said since it is expected from politicians to deliver on promises made,

he will use all available resources in order to achieve the progressive realisation of the party’s task and assignment given.

“Bear with me as I fight any form of corruption, favouritism, nepotism, tribalism and discrimination that may arise in our region,’’ he declared under laud applause.

Isaacks also said everyone will enjoy regional preferences as stated in the social agreement LPM entered with the electorate during the campaign period.

“Everyone that voted for me, against me and those that could not vote but were eligible to do so will enjoy priority whilst those Namibians beyond our boundaries will not be excluded,’’ he added.

The LPM leader then urged community members to stand up, take ownership and cooperate.

“Don’t settle for what you have,’’ he furthermore said.

Isaacks also pleaded with residents not to be complacent but let their common vision and objective for the region be their foundation.

“May we enjoy the good and sound spirit of humanity and may we envisage our destination with dedication and determination,’’ he said.

I n wh a t can be described as a surprise move, none of the councillors duly nominated or seconded each other as additional members for the management committee, thus leaving the positions vacant for now.

Membersnominated and seconded to represent // Kharas region in the National Cou n c i l include Isaacks, Gerrit Witbooi and Jeremias Goeieman who are from LPM.

Witbooi was swornin as Keetmanshoop Rural council lor, Goeieman (Berseba), Ans eline B euke s ( Karasburg East), Isaacks (Keetmanshoop Urban), L azarus N ango lo (Oranjemund), Susan Ndjaleka (!Nami#Nus) and Taimi Kanyemba (Karasburg West).
