Ndeitunga calls for a disciplined force
GOBABIS – Police chief Sebastian Ndeitunga has called on members of the force to be disciplined at all times, saying this was a cornerstone of policing.
Ndeitunga made the remarks during a belated commemoration of Police Day at Gobabis in the Omaheke region last week Friday.
In the speech read on his behalf, Ndeitunga said such events are a reminder to the force of the huge task placed upon them and a platform to renew its commitments and promises made to the Namibian people.
“The commemoration of the Police Day signifies the important role that the police have been playing over the years and reminds us of the mammoth tasks placed upon us,” he said.
“Hence, it is during occasions of this nature that the force renews its commitments and promises made to the Namibian people to fulfil its mandates of protecting them and their properties and ensuring that the safety and security of our nation is maintained,” read the speech.
Nd e itunga thanked the
government, public and all law enforcement stakeholders for their support, saying during moments when police were confronted with violent crimes such as gender-based violence, is the public that cried the loudest and came to the forefront to report such crimes.
“On our part as police officers, we reiterate our recommitment to always give violent crimes, especially GBV, the priority they deserve; however, we still appeal to all those who have roles to play in preventing these crimes, to do their part.”
He added that police officers are expected to serve the public impartially and should thus desist from participating actively in politics or any other public platforms or gatherings that could bring the name of the police into disrepute.
