Governor urges unity among Otjozondjupa leaders
OT J I WA R O N G O – The governor of Otjozondjupa, James Uerikua, has urged the newly elected councillors in the region to work in unity and harmony in order to effectively and efficiently deliver services to the people.
“You are leaders for all, and you represent the interest of the entire Otjozondjupa region irrespective of your different political parties. Therefore, go and peacefully deliver what you have promised and take this nation to another level,” said Uerikua.
The governor made the remarks last week during the swearing-in ceremony of regional counicllors.
The new regional council is comprised of five councillors from Swapo and the National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo).
Uerikua implored the councillors to put their differences aside and deliver to the region impartially, without any bias or discrimination. He urged them to deliver professionally, effectively, efficiently, accountably and transparently.
“Down ethnicity, down tribalism and down racism. Let’s hold hands and uphold the principles of good governance,” he said.
The governor explained that land delivery, housing, youth unemployment, and poverty eradication are some of the region’s challenges. He added that youth sports, sustainable agricultural programmes, smart economic developments, tourism promotion and hospitality, and trade are also key development areas that the region is striving to strengthen.
At the same event, the newly elected chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council, Marlyn Mbakera expressed her gratitude for the opportunity bestowed to her to give hope to the residents and develop the region.
“I am ready to serve the Otjozondjupa region together with my capable team. We will not procrastinate, we will deliver,” she assured.
