ONGWEDIVA – The police in Omusati region are investigating two cases of rape after two minor girls, aged eight and 13, were reportedly raped earlier this month.

In the first incident, an eightyear-old girl was allegedly raped last week Wednesday around 18h30 at Odimbwa village in the Etayi constituency.

The suspect, who has not yet been arrested, is allegedly the victims’ neighbour.

According to the crime investigations coordinator in Omusati, Deputy Commissioner Moses Simaho, the victim was allegedly sent to collect water from the suspect’s house.

“The suspect then allegedly dragged the victim by force to the sleeping room and had sexual intercourse with the minor,” said Simaho.

Simaho said no arrest has been affected and investigations are still ongoing. Still in Etayi constituency, a case of rape was registered on Sunday. It is alleged a 13-yearold girl was allegedly raped in Omunghete village.

According to Simaho, the victim was allegedly looking for firewood when the alleged suspect called the victim to go to her to get sweets.

“The victim allegedly went to the suspect to get her sweets – and in instead, the suspect grabbed the victim, tripped her down and had sexual intercourse with her,” said Simaho.

Simaho said the victim allegedly started screaming – and when the owner of the house close to where the victim was collecting wood from asked what was happening, the suspect allegedly fled.

The suspect is known but has not yet been arrested and investigation into the matter continues.
