Standard Bank Namibia has rewarded seven Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) marketing students with cash prizes for their academic achievements.

Best first, second and third-year Samantha Muchinenyika, Yulani Fourie, Tuisira Kavikairiua all walked away with N$2 000 each respectively while Best Student Cum Laude Linzy Marcolynn Ronel Majiedt clinched N$3 000. Best Honours Cum Laude Olivia Shilongo and Lavinia Ndayelelwa Apaopawa Shalongo each got N$2

000.“I am thankful for this wonderful gesture by Standard Bank, hard work does pay off. I wasn’t really surprised that I would get a cum laude because of the way I performed and while studying, that was the aim,” Majiedt told Youth Corner yesterday.

She said the love for marketing is

immeasurable. “I love the concept of marketing. The selling of ideas to customers. It’s a mind game and I love it and all its challenges,” added the overzealous Majiedt.

Although she hasn’t decided on what master’s programme to pursue, Majiedt advised prospective student for the 2021 academic year to strike

a good balance between academics and social life.

“This might be their first time stepping out of their parent or guardians’ houses, the freedom that comes with that can be daunting as they are still figuring out themselves. I would say they should enjoy the experience. Have a social life and balance everything,” shared Majiedt.

“Education is the key to success. We want to encourage our students to work very hard so they can one day occupy leadership positions in industry or better still become entrepreneurs to support the growth of the Namibian economy,” said Magreth Mengo, Standard Bank’s Head of Marketing and Communications.

She added that besides the academic awards, the bank also runs a bursary scheme that funds the tertiary education of Namibians in various fields that are deemed relevant not only for the Group but to address the country’s critical skills needs. “The bank is committed to driving Namibia’s growth through various interventions, including the provision of educational opportunities to the most deserving and underprivileged Namibians. We are doing this not for our own sake but to promote academic excellence and deliver the next generation of Namibian talent and leaders,” settled Mengo.
