OMUTHIYA – A total of 250 police officers have been promoted in Oshikoto region effective this month, regional commander Commissioner Armas Shivute announced this week.

“There was no favouritism or anything of any sort when these promotions were done; everything was according to performance and recommendation. I consult and then we map the way forward,” he said, noting that some people have been feeling discriminated and sidelined, of which is not the case.

Shivute made this revelation during the commemoration of Police Day on Wednesday.

Of the total 129 who were promoted to sergeant class one, followed by 20 and 87 warrant officers class one, as well as two respectively. Five were elevated to inspector and two as chief inspectors. An additional seven members were also rewarded with the rank of sergeant class two.

“I am happy to see everyone in a joyful mood. Therefore, I will strive to do everything in my power to maintain that mood, as it will definitely lead to enhance service delivery; therefore,

many people in the region will be safe,” he added.

“On the other hand, friends and families should know that police promotion is a significant achievement in the members’ career. It is also a testament to their commitment, mastery of duties, skills and also shows the leadership capabilities of the member.”

Sharing similar sentiments, his assistant Deputy Commissioner Petrus Shigwedha said as seniors, they will soon head into retirement; hence, the youthful junior staffers need to be elevated and prepared to take over.

“There is a beginning and an end to everything; therefore, your time has come and still coming to lead. As you may be aware, law enforcement agencies are facing huge and complex challenges resulting from organised crimes, rapid urbanisation, unemployment, poverty and technological advancement; therefore, I urge all of you to intensify your skills in combating criminal activities timely and appropriate,” stressed Shigwedha.

Furthermore, he urged the members of the force to identify problematic areas, interrogate and resolve the situation.

“With our limited resources at our disposal, we shall ensure that peace, safety and security are prevailing at all cost. However, action sounds louder than words; hence, let’s redouble our efforts, as the world of today is boundless, exhibiting another challenge, which requires a transformation of an old policing style.”
