Wedding off after bride vanishes for five months
A father of a 30-year-old woman Miina Simeon from Okambogo village in Onyaanya constituency of Oshikoto region said his daughter’s wedding that was to take place next week Friday will no longer take place. This was after she disappeared from home five months ago. Leevi Simeon reported her daughter missing to the Namibian police at Ondangwa after the family and her fiancé failed to locate her.
Simeon said they sought the police help after her daughter who is a schoolteacher failed to communicate with the family after leaving home in August. For five months, the father said they could not reach her either via telephone or in-person.
“We have exhausted all the options in looking for her. First, early this year,
she told us that she is transferred from a local school to another school near Kavango. But when we investigated, she was nowhere to be found. We became very worried and decided to report the matter to the police,” said the distraught father. She only reappeared after the police announced on the social media that she was missing, claiming that she was at Ohaingu in Angola.
“She told us yesterday (Saturday) that she was in Angola and went there in August to get stock for her business. However, since the borders were closed due to Covid-19, she could not return home,” said the father.
Simeon then told New Era that the wedding announcement that was supposed to take place yesterday could not proceed since the family decided to put it on hold. He said most of the arrangement for the wedding was put hold due to the bride’s unexplained absence.
“She is back home but we are sceptical about asking her so many questions. It is like she is a bit ashamed to face the family. Hence, I think I will only be able to share more light with you when we sit with the family because it is a very sensitive matter and we do not want her to disappear forever,” said the father.
The father said he does not want to divulge more information about the other family however, the two families were expected to meet yesterday.
He said he has already informed the police that the daughter is safe, hence he thanked all the people who were supporting them to find their daughter.
