ONGWEDIVA - The police in Omusati region are investigating a case of double murder after a 35-year-old suspect allegedly committed suicide after murdering his girlfriend and mother of a oneyear-old daughter.

He allegedly slit her throat several times with a panga.

The alleged incident took place on Tuesday evening at Onamatanga village in the Ruacana constituency.

Police regional commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo said the two were allegedly cohabiting.

Prior to the murder on Tuesday evening, the two allegedly quarrelled during the day before they went to the local cuca shops.

When they allegedly returned from the cuca shops that evening, the girlfriend decided to go to her grandmother’s house, as she feared for her safety.

“It is further alleged that the suspect followed her and forcefully dragged her outside the grandmother’s homestead where he started chopping her with a panga all over the body including the head and arms,” said Shikongo. As a result, the deceased sustained serious injuries to the head.

Both arms were allegedly completely cut off from the rest of the body. She died on the spot.

According to Shikongo, the suspect fled the scene of crime.

He went into the nearby bushes and committed suicide.

His lifeless body was discovered hanging from a mopane tree with a wire around his neck.

The deceased have been identified as Niita Kandjafa (27) and Ignatius Tumeni Nampweya (35). Their next of kin have been informed.
