A shot in the arm for Bravo primary school

- ■ John Muyamba

BRAVO – As part of its corporate social responsibility, Pental Fishing (Pty) Ltd has donated a solar power system, office equipment and teaching aids to Bravo primary school, a rural school situated in the Mpungu constituency of the Kavango West region.

The donation comprised a 1 000 watts home solar power system, a laptop, a printer, an overhead projector, a tripod screen, and 10 boxes of A4 copier ream white paper.

The school, established in 1998, is among many government schools in rural areas that do not have access to electricity.

This donation is part of Pental Fishing corporate social responsibility, according to the company’s board chairperson Elizabeth Kakukuru.

“I have heard a lot about the school many years back when my father was the councillor for the Mpungu constituency. But I have never been here; we were scouting for a school to support. We asked the school to give us their critical school needs, and we managed to bring this,” Kakukuru said.

Kakukuru handed over the donation worth about N$60 000 to the school on Friday. She noted that the value of the gift met the request that the school submitted to the company.

The school principal, Anna Matjayi, said it was the biggest donation made to the school.

Matjayi said since her appointment at the school in 2016, “I have not witnessed anything like this”.

To make copies, they are forced to travel about 100km to Tsumeb or Mpungu, which costs about N$500, including transport.

“This donation will relieve the school of many challenges facing both the teachers and learners,” she added.
