Woman dies after drinking tombo

The police in Omusati region are investigat­ing a case of a 19-year-old woman, who died upon arrival at a local hospital after she had allegedly consumed the traditiona­l brew, tombo, at Onavivi village.

According to the weekend’s police crime report, the incident occurred on Saturday at around 05h00 at the Outapi District Hospital.

“The body was transporte­d to Okahao police mortuary to determine the cause of death. The next of kin was informed; police investigat­ion continues,” said the police.

At Tsumeb, a 17-year-old learner at

Etosha Secondary School drowned in a swimming pool on Saturday.

The incident occurred at around 17h00 at Kupferquel­le Resort (Dros) Tsumeb.

In Ohangwena, a 35-year-old man allegedly hanged himself with steel wire in his sleeping room. No suicide note was discovered.

The incident happened on Saturday evening and no foul play is suspected.

The police have also reported a murder case that occurred at Ongava Street,

Okuryangav­a, on Sunday when a body of a 27-year-old man was found lying alongside the road with a stab wound behind the back under the right arm.

On the same day, the body of a male person was found in a pool of blood in Tsumeb between St. Francis Primary School and the Teacher Resource Centre.

Next to the body were objects suspected to be used in the commission of the crime, the police said.

“The deceased was only identified as

Fritz (Gogo); his age is still unknown. Police investigat­ion continues,” said the police.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested a man in connection with the death of a 69-year-old man at farm Guinas in the Tsumeb district.

Initially, the police reported the man committed suicide by hanging himself with a wire. However, preliminar­y investigat­ions suspect foul play.

“It is further suspected preliminar­y investigat­ions depict that the deceased has been murdered. One suspect was arrested on Saturday, while two are still on the run. Next of kin has been informed,” the police said.
