-

TheLandlessPeople’sMovement’s second in command Henny Seibeb has appealed to members of the public to follow existing guidelines to prevent the further spread of Covid-19.

Seibeb made the appeal yesterday morning in a press statement issued to the media, in which the party also announced that Seibeb had contracted Covid-19 about two weeks ago and has since been discharged following a brief hospitalisation.

According to the statement, Seibeb is now at home, where he is recovering well after being discharged from the hospital on Monday.

“Seibeb was hospitalised for two weeks after contracting the dreaded Covid-19, which has claimed many lives of Namibians, including those of prominent leaders in the Namibian landscape,” the statement noted.

In the statement, Seibeb thanked the physicians, nurses, ambulance drivers and other front line workers for their commitment and bravery amid the pandemic.

Other prominent leaders who have reportedly contracted Covid- 19 recently include founding President Sam Nujoma and leader of the official opposition McHenry Venaani.

Seibeb’s call follows that of Minister of Health and Social Services Dr Kalumbi Shangula, who, in a recent daily Covid-19 update, called for extra vigilance as Covid-19 cases continue to rise, especially in people aged between 20 and 49 years.

He added that the increased number of cases from students, academia, learners and teachers are still being reported during their holidays.
