Pencilled Casting draws attention online

- Jeoffrey Mukubi

After the launch of the Pencilled Casting website, ordinary people can now register and be part of a community of actors, voice-over artists and models that all want an opportunity to live out their dreams of seeing themselves on billboards, magazines TV commercials as well as in local and international films.

Speaking to unWrap.online recently, founder Kulan Ganes says that the whole idea of setting up the casting agency was premeditated. “I had already been working with production companies and corporate businesses scouting for talent. As a professional make-up artist, I guess I had a niche and an eye to find people best fit for the intended job,” Ganes said.

She mentioned that her anticipated target market was people from all walks of life, but more importantly the average everyday person. “Our talent comes from places that you would least expect, like Havana in Katutura, Ludwigsdorf, basically anywhere and everywhere.”

Although it had been a side gig for well over 14 years, she said that it was only with the help of the National Arts Council (NAC) national Covid-19 relief fund that she managed to kick start the Pencilled Casting website.

“I think the reason why the NAC chose Pencilled Casting was because it was already an existing business, but it just was not registered yet,” Ganes added. Ganes has previously worked with many big shot corporate companies such as Tafel Lager, Top Score, Telecom, Nammilk, FNB, MTC, Old Mutual and MVA, just to mention a few.

There are about 53 featured talents on the website that include men, women and children from all works of life and Ganes says that since the launch of the website, international production houses have already peeked interest in some of the local talent.

Ganes says that there is still a lot of work to be done as her focus now is to make sure that the talent gets what it wants.
