Considering that many people have lost their employment due to the coronavirus pandemic, Standard Bank Namibia has collaborated with the award-winning disc jockey and musical sensation DJ Castro on the ‘Let’s Unite’ social development project to solicit funds for the purchase and distribution of basic necessities for needy children in the country. Their main fundraising activities are marketing campaigns and music concerts. Real name Uakengeza Ngoinue, DJ Castro said the collaboration with the financial institution came as a surprise. “I am over the moon right now because this means many less privileged children across the country are going to be helped,” he frankly said.

Last year the DJ donated items worth N$30 000 and this year it is expected to be even bigger as all the regions will be catered for.

Standard Bank’s head of marketing, Magreth Mengo, applauded the community empowerment initiative, saying it will go a long way in helping parents meet the educational needs of their children. “We take matters related to education very seriously. Our country’s future depends on a critical mass of an educated nation,” she said.

Mengo further said that many people are unable to afford the basics due to loss of income. “Those are the families whose children we really want to support through the distribution of stationery,” she noted. Mengo said: “‘Let’s Unite’ has built a strong network across the country and therefore it’s not difficult to work with them to get stationery to the needy learners at the identified schools.”

The distribution of stationery to identified schools in the regions is expected to start the following week.
