I won’t be running for another term – Netball boss
Netball Namibia (NN) president Lydia Mutenda, whose term runs full circle in a month’s time, has told this publication that she will not be gunning for another term as president at NN’s upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) set for April.
Mutenda, who was elected president of the local netball governing body in 2017, along with her executive team, said she had done her part for local netball and will not be seeking reelection at the body’s upcoming elective gathering slated for 17 April 2021.
Rumours has of late been making rounds that Mutenda and her executive team are pushing to amend the constitution so that that they can stand for re-election come April.
This is a rumour she strongly rubbished yesterday, saying she will not be standing for re-election nor will she be vying for other positions, as the constitution does not currently allow her to do so.
“I am not going to stand for re-election, my term has come to an end and the constitution does not allow me to stand or run for another term in office,” she said.
Touching on logistics and preparations for the upcoming yearly general elective meeting, Mutenda said they have been busy putting all necessary logistics in place and all should be ready in time for the elections – depending on how Covid-19 rules and regulations will be relaxed at the time.
“The preparations are at an advanced stage and depending on the country’s Covid-19 status. The nomination process will start anytime soon,” she added.
