Commonly known for promoting cultural engagement by fostering dialogue through arts, the GoetheInstitut Namibia is promoting opportunities for Namibians, creatives and cultural creators to represent their country through contributions and applying for international projects, geared at fueling arts and cultural development at home and abroad.

Some opportunities offered are such as Africomics, African German Phrase Book contribution, Science Week 2021 Films, Visual Arts Project Fund and Fellowship in artistic technical creations.

The Africomics project is aimed at promoting and encourage the use of comics/graphic novels as a means of artistic, social and cultural expression.

According to Goethe-Institut Press and Communications Officer Lendl Izaaks, they are searching for creative minds to produce short videos that will be presented on a self-learning platform to prepare future workshop participants.

“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, physical encounters cannot yet take place, so we are first starting to create a video library that future workshop participants can use to prepare themselves independently,’ he said.

Creatives who are fluent in local indigenous languages such as Oshindonga, Khoekhoegowab, Otjiherero, RuKwangali, Silozi, San Ju|’hoan or Setswana are requested to apply for their contribution to the African German phrasebook.

With the Science Week 2021 Films approaching, the institute is calling upon filmmakers, producers, distributors and broadcasters to submit films on the topic through their online application form.

The Science Film Festival is a celebration of science communication in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.

In cooperation with local partners, it promotes science literacy and facilitates awareness of contemporary scientific, technological and environmental issues through international films with accompanying educational activities.

Through the Visual Arts Project Fund, the Goethe-Institut supports artists, curators and institutions from different countries and regions in the realisation of projects planned jointly and based on a division of labour.

As if that is not enough, the institute will also offer a fellowship in artistic technical creations.

“The artistic-technical research centre Academy for Theatre and Digitality in Dortmund (Germany) is offering five-months-fellowships. The call will cover the research period, February to June 2022, and ends 10 March 2021. The call for applications is addressed to artists, technicians and post-graduate fellows who have a keen interest in researching artistic-technical relations within digital narratives in theatre spaces, as well as putting those into practice,” said Izaaks.

More information about the opportunities and the deadlines can be found on their website.
