AJ-Fresh not coming back

Back in the day when people were still warming to the idea of listening to and appreciating local music, several musicians made headlines day-in-day-out and shone like stars. A few years down the line, they’re nowhere to be found.

As usual, Entertainment Now! took a look back at some of the artists who defined the local kwaito era and caught up with AJ-Fresh from the once-famous and popular Fresh Family.

“Life happened; that’s why I have been quiet for this long,” said AjFresh when asked where he has been.

Although the artist went missing in action a few years after the split of the Fresh Family group, he still records music. However, he raised uncertainty about getting back to the music scene.

“I am no more constant with releasing music because I now have a full-time job but I have created a Youtube channel where I upload my songs,” said AJ-Fresh, who is now an artisan in the Ministry of Agriculture.

Asked what he misses in the industry, AJ-Fresh confessed he misses his Fresh Family crew and their split was one of the bad memories in the industry.

“I miss them but we are now all grown and have moved on with our lives,” he said.

He described the years with Fresh Family as “magical”.

“We had a strong fan base countrywide and ladies would scream at us during performances at events and shows everywhere we performed in Namibia,” AJ-Fresh related.

If there is one thing he wishes he knew before entering the music fraternity, AJ-Fresh said it would be about favouritism.

“I wish I knew the music industry is one-sided as it is. Maybe I would have done things differently,” said the ‘Superstar’ hitmaker before commanding for justice in the industry.

Unlike artists who have dreams of leaving an artistic legacy in the industry, AJ-Fresh seems different from the rest.

“I don’t really want to be remembered in the music industry,” he concluded.
