Okahandja Park murder probe nears completion

The police have made tremendous progress investigating the case of a Windhoek resident, who was arrested last year in connection to the heinous murder of his wife.

This is according to prosecutor Victoria Likius, who is representing the State in the matter of Inock Mazala Nalisa.

Likius informed the court the police have made strides investigating the case and the only matter at hand is about the status of the accused’s legal representation.

Nalisa informed the court his application for legal aid was approved but his family is yet to pay for the administration fee so a lawyer can be appointed to his case.

Nalisa made his second appearance in Katutura Magistrate’s Court last week before magistrate Johannes Shuuveni.

His case was postponed to 16 April for legal aid. The prosecution is charging Nalisa with a count of murder read with the provisions of Domestic Violence Act.

Nalisa is accused of murdering his wife Petra Minikonzo Nyakwambo (30) by stabbing and hitting her with a hammer at the back of her head following an argument, according to court documents. The wife died instantly.

The incident occurred at the couple’s residence in Windhoek’s informal settlement of Okahandja Park on 30 October 2020.

According to police reports, after the tragic incident, Nalisa fled the crime scene.

He later handed himself over to the Wanaheda police in the early hours of 2 November 2020.

During his first court appearance, Nalisa requested that he be transferred from the Wanaheda police station to the Windhoek Correctional facility.

“There are people that I know from another case who are in there with me and they are tempting me. They keep on asking me about what happened,” explained Nalisa.

The court refused to grant the transfer order, stating there is no imminent threat to his life and that he failed to sufficiently substantiate his transfer application.
