Six murder suspects appear in court

-

Six men made their first appearance in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with four separate murder incidents in Windhoek at the weekend.

All suspects were remanded in custody without the option to post bail due to the seriousness of the charges they are facing and to allow for further police investigations.

All four murder cases were postponed to 8 June 2021.

Among those who appeared are two brothers, Aluvinu and George Mbandje as well as their friend Quinto Gariseb, who allegedly stabbed 20-year-old Isak Hofni Elago to death.

The incident reportedly took place on Friday in the Goreagab area.

They appeared before magistrate Atutala Shikalepo, who postponed their case to allow the accused persons to acquire legal representation and to allow for further police investigations.

Matheus Nuuyoma (22) also appeared before magistrate Shikalepo for allegedly stabbing to death a 29-year-old man with a knife at a bar in Havana on Saturday.

His co-accused, who is unknown, is still at large.

Another murder accused, Zshvano Nehemia, also appeared in front of the same magistrate in connection with the death of a 31-year-old man, who was assaulted with a rock in Okuryangava on Saturday.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Nehemia was represented by Windhoek lawyer Kadhila Amoomo, who informed the court that they are giving the family time to grieve and will return to court in two weeks’ time to apply for bail.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Clervakio Shapaka appeared before magistrate Johannes Shuuveni for allegedly punching to death a 39-year-old man in Agtste Laan in Otjomuise after an argument between the two.

It is alleged that the argument led to the deceased punching Shapaka, who retaliated by punching the deceased once. The victim fell and died on the spot. His case was postponed to 8 June for him to obtain legal representation.
