KBA 3x3 Independence tourney a hit
After months without basketball action, the Khomas Basketball Associatation (KBA) recently held its 3x3 Independence Tournament at the Basketball Art School (BAS) at Katutura’s Youth Complex, which attracted a huge number of participants.
The competition had a total of seven teams battling it out for top honours, comprising male and female teams. The Real MVPs emerged as winners of the male category after beating Tax Collectors, while VLSA won the female category after sending Fire Squad packing in the final. The winners walked away with medals and trophies.
Speaking to the media after the event, KBA secretary general Loise Negumbo, expressed excitement with teams returning to action after months of inactivity due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“It was a good turnout given the fact that Covid-19 ravaged everything and left us with no choice. Players were eager to play basketball and they were very excited. Although our finances are inadequate, we are still managing. It was great to see the Namibia Basketball Federation (NBF) and KBA working together to put up this competition. It brought the togetherness of basketball,” said Negumbo.
“It would be helpful to get funding from anyone willing to sponsor us. People are in love with this game and these players are very dedicated, even players with 40 years and above also took part in the tournament. The veteran players are setting high standards for their juniors, which is amazing.”
He added that they are planning to host another tournament in coming weeks. “I would like to applaud my colleagues
