THE Lufthansa Group has announced it will move their flight operations to and from Namibia under its new leisure brand Eurowings Discover from the beginning of August 2021.

Lufthansa Group’s André Schulz, who is the general manager of Southern and East Africa, this week said due to operational reasons, there is, however, a need to implement some adjustments within their flight plan to maintain these planned frequencies.

“Until the end of May 2021, our existing flight schedule to and from Windhoek shall remain unchanged,” he announced in a statement.

From the beginning of June until the end of July, Lufthansa will service their

Windhoek-Frankfurt route – and together with this adjustment, they will move their Windhoek flight departure to an evening flight service.

Thereafter, he said, from August 2021, the group will move all flight operations to and from Windhoek under the new Eurowings Discover brand and continue operating an evening departure from Windhoek.

During 2020, Air Namibia suspended its Windhoek to Frankfurt route as Germany and other European countries tighten travel restrictions.

The route was never re-opened, as Air Namibia was liquidated and international travel restrictions are still in place.

“With our current flight programme to and from Namibia, the Lufthansa Group offers our customers a reliable connection five times a week between Windhoek and

Frankfurt,” Schulz assured.

Through their extensive hub network, the group further announced extending their flight offering to just about any corner of the world.

He also provided some important updates regarding the upcoming flight schedule for the Namibian market.

At the start of April 2021, the Lufthansa Group introduced its fifth frequency between Windhoek and Frankfurt, signifying the importance of the Namibian market within

the global route network strategy.

According to him, these flights have no doubt been received with much anticipation.

Further, he announced that Lufthansa will continue with the planned five weekly frequencies throughout 2021.

“As the news of our continued flight operations to Namibia provides a very positive outlook for our industry, safety remains our number one priority,” he assured.
