Namibia’s featherweight boxing ace Jeremiah ‘Lowkey’ Nakathila says he is on the brink of realising his childhood dream and not even American opponent Shakur Stevenson will stop him from clinching the coveted World Boxing Organisation (WBO) interim world super featherweight title.

The hard-hitting Nakathila, who remains one of Namibia and Africa’s most sought-after boxing talents, is set to make history when he faces America’s 22-year-old Stevenson on 12 June in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA for the WBO interim world super featherweight title.

On the African circuit, Nakathila has done it all in the highly competitive featherweight division, having overpoweringly reigned as WBO continental featherweight king, before going on to add the WBO Global super featherweight crown to the collection.

Now, Nakathila is eyeing the big stage and with the WBO interim world super featherweight title in sight, he is determined to stop at nothing to finally realise his childhood dream of becoming a world champion.

International media has extensively quoted Stevenson throwing verbal jabs at Nakathila, saying his upcoming fight against the Namibian will be a walk in the park and another easy payday. Nakathila has taken notice of Stevenson’s overflowing confidence but promised he will make the American youngster eat humble pie when they cross paths on 12 June.

Nakathila told New Era Sport the very least Stevenson can do at this point is to be confident because he will definitely need that selfconfidence when they meet.

“Stevenson is a good boxer and I think has been lucky to come this far as a world champion at featherweight. But he has never faced a fighter of my calibre and comes 12 June, I will take care of business as I usually do. I am really excited about the opportunity because I have been waiting for many years to finally get this opportunity to fight for a world title. It is every boxer’s dream to fight for a world title and not even Stevenson will stop me,” warned Nakathila.

Asked how training has been going, Nakathila said he is in great shape and ready to take Stevenson to the cleaners come fight night.

He added that he is not worried about how he will win the bout, either by knockout or decision, as long as he walks away victorious.

“The camp has been great and I am in super great shape. We still have a month to go and, in all fairness, we have had ample time to prepare for the task ahead. I am confident of a win either by knockout or otherwise, but I will not leave that ring without the belt. I will become Namibia’s fifth world champion and continue my country’s great tradition of winning world titles.”
