OSHAKATI – Oshana governor Elia Irimari yesterday said his office has taken an initiative to absorb the demonstrating children of the liberation struggle into jobs and training.

Irimari pleaded with the demonstrators to exercise patience as their plight is being addressed.

“We have regional modalities to see how to assist them, and we are aware of their plight. We have taken initiatives at the regional level, and the responses are positive,” he added.

Irimari stressed that the focus is not only on the children of the liberation struggle, as there many other youth in the region in need of jobs.

About 30 children of the liberation struggle at Oshakati on Tuesday demanded to meet with Irimari to apprise him of their circumstances.

The group, which has been camping at the National Youth Service offices since March, said the governor has not visited them, despite visiting their counterparts at Ondangwa.

They have thus given the governor’s office an ultimatum of two days to engage them.

They also asked what the office of the governor did with the information gathered earlier.

“What happened to the names that were recorded last year?

Where did you take them, and what was the purpose because we have been patiently waiting to hear from you? Until now, you did not bother to come to us,” Iipinge charged in the statement.

The group said in their petition, received by the chief administrator in the governor’s office Moses Matatias, that they have been patiently waiting, but time is running out as they are also ageing.

The children of the liberation struggle have been camping at various sites in the country,
