Eight-year-old defiled in Kavango West

KAHENGE - The police in Kavango West are yet to arrest a 25-year-old man suspected of having raped an eight-year-old girl during the period of 27 and 28 May 2021 at Murayi village.

“It is alleged that a 25-year-old man unlawfully and intentiona­lly had sexual intercours­e with a minor girl of eight years. The suspect has not been arrested yet, but is known,” read the Namibian police report.

In the //Kharas region, the police arrested a 19-year-old man who attempted to rape a 14-year-old girl at Tses village.

The incident was reported to have occurred on Friday around 12h45 in the field between Swartkoppi­es farm and Blou-oos post in the Blouwes area. It is alleged that the suspect unlawfully and intentiona­lly tried to remove the clothes of the victim, and tried to rape her.

“The suspect was arrested, and will appear in the Keetmansho­op Magistrate’s Court on Monday,” the report said.

Meanwhile, the police in the Ohangwena region are investigat­ing a case of attempted murder and armed robbery with aggravatin­g circumstan­ces after a male victim was shot in his face with a pistol on Friday.

“It happened on Friday at around 21h59 along the Omafo-Ohangwena B1 road. It is alleged that three unknown suspects shot the victim on his forehead and through the lower jaw with a pistol, pushed him off his white Toyota Avensis vehicle, and drove away with it,” said the report.

The value of the property was estimated at N$60 000, and it has not yet been recovered.

“The victim is currently admitted at the Oshakati Intermedia­te Hospital in a stable condition. The suspects are not known to the victim, and no arrest has been made yet”, the police report added.

In Windhoek, the body of 58-year-old Julia Alma Shilunga was discovered by family members in the presence of police officers, who showed up at her residence after a week passed without the relatives hearing from her.

The cause of death is still to be determined since the deceased had been on sick leave, and was staying alone. The police said it is not known whether she was suffering from any chronic diseases, and a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
