Eenhana council dismayed by stadium delay

Head of economic development and marketing at the Eenhana Town Council, Ndawedwa Mwandingi, has expressed disappointment in the sports ministry for the slow completion of the town’s multi-purpose sports centre.

Complex to address the lack of sports facilities in the Ohangwena region over 15 years ago.
He said the construction of the facility commenced in 2009 and has not yet been concluded. The facility will cater for various sports codes such as football, tennis, basketball and netball.
“Disappointingly, the ministry has been very slow in developing the facility. We really need this facility in a region that has the second largest population in the country, but no proper sports facility at all,” said Mwandingi.
When contacted for comment, sports minister Agnes Tjongarero said she engaged officials from the Eenhana Town Council who made a presentation at her office regarding the stadium a few weeks ago, and she made it clear to them that the completion of the facility is on the cards and the ministry plans to complete it this financial year if the funds are availed.
“The way forward is that we are waiting for the money, which is part of the budget that was debated in the National Assembly that only concluded at the end of May. So it’s on the cards, and depending on whether we will receive all the money or some will go to Covid-19. I don’t know, but it’s on the cards to be completed this year and that is what I told their technical team that was here,” said Tjongarero.
