Fishing company donates to Kavango West school
NKURENKURU - A local fishing company, Sirovero Trading, over the weekend donated fencing materials and a photocopy machine to Sikarosompo Primary School.
The contribution to this rural school in the inland of the Kavango West region and the education sector at large is worth N$77 000.
The school currently has a fencing project where parents are supposed to contribute N$100 every term, but this proved to be a challenge, as most parents could only afford about N$40.
In light of this, Sirovero Trading as part of its corporate social responsibility came to the assistance of the school with the donation.
At the handing over, the company’s representative Christian Kauyu said in 2018, the company nominated the school as one of its corporate social responsibility beneficiaries to help it meet some of its needs. “We hope and trust that this donation came at the right time and it will make a difference at the school,” Kauyu said.
Meanwhile, the deputy director of lifelong learning Herbert Karapo who represented the region’s directorate of education commended the company for the noble gesture.
“It is indeed a great honour and pleasure that companies like Sirovero have come to the aid in supporting our schools that are really in dire need of materials,” Karapo said. “This is one of the responsibilities where companies are ploughing back to the community and it is indeed a great honour,” he added.
Karapo appealed to the company to continue extending a helping hand when assistance is sought from them by schools.
This he said will help meet the government halfway for the interest and benefit of the Namibian child.
Karapo, who is of the opinion that there are some companies getting the resources but do not plough back into the community, urged all other companies and stakeholders to emulate Sirovero Trading and support rural remote schools that are in dire need of support.
The school, through the principal Stromeus Mutuku, also extended gratitude to the company.
