Rupara centre construction progressing well
RUNDU – The construction of the Rupara Rural Development Centre in Kavango West is progressing well, said regional council spokesperson Salomo Tenga.
The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, under the 2020/21 financial year, budgeted N$13 million for the construction of a double storey accommodation, conference hall, kitchen, dining hall and a metal workshop at Rupara village.
Tenga told Nampa this week the conference hall will house two small break away halls, a kitchen, an open eating area, ablution facilities and three offices.
Tenga said the centre is aimed at improving the quality of life and economic wellbeing of people living in rural communities in the region.
“Thus far, the metal workshop is done, while the double storey accommodation is 50 percent complete and is being constructed by WT Business Group,” he said.
He said the region has even started using the metal workshop as the Community Skills Development Centre (COSDEC), which came on board last month to train 20 young people on the courses they offer.
The construction is expected to be concluded by March 2022.
Under the development budget of the 2020/21
financial year, some of the planned projects include the construction of a Class C police station at Nkurenkuru for N$18 million, ministry of safety and security headquarters at Nkurenkuru for N$20 million and the construction of the ministry of agriculture regional office for N$10 million.
Mankumpi constituency councillor Lukas Muha said infrastructure such as the Rupara Rural Development Centre will improve rural development through sustainable infrastructure, especially for the Kavango West region, which is regarded as one of the poorest in the country.
