Model casting call

One of the prestigious fashion events in the country, the MTC Windhoek Fashion Week (MWFW), is returning for the 6th edition with jaw-dropping fashion and head-turning designs from our local and international designers.

The MWFW is slated for 1–7 November 2021, and model castings will take place on Saturday at the National Theatre of Namibia from 09h00 to 15h00.

The casting call is open to all models of any shape, size, gender and colour, the event’s director Kalistu Mukoroli announced this week. The only requirement is height of 1.7m for women and 1.8m for men.

“The castings are an opportunity for upand-coming models to be part of Namibia’s biggest fashion event. We are looking at casting both men and women models on the said date, and strict Covid-19 regulations will be followed,” he said.

Mukoroli is urging models to ensure they have two Z-cards when coming to the castings. Females are required to also bring along heels, a bikini, leggings and a top, while males should have a vest, shorts and swimming trunks.

A Z-card is usually created in an A5 format and contains personal data such as name, measurements (height, chest, waist, hip), shoe size, dress size, hair colour and eye colour as well as five varied photos of the model.

“Models play a very important role during the MTC Windhoek Fashion Week as they are the ones who will be modelling the garments of the designers,” Mukoroli said.

The MWFW is a chance for all models to reach a new audience, gain experience working with a multi-platform event, and see an idea jump off the rack and onto the runway.

The week-long fashion showcase is aimed at bringing together different industry-related professionals such as designers, brands, models, show producers, photographers, stylists, hair and makeup artists as well as jewellery/crafters, who come together to flaunt their latest collections in different runway shows.

The event, which attracts over 2 000 people, has this year been extended by two days.

“We have a few surprises this year, with two events that will be hosted during the week of the MTC Windhoek Fashion Week. More information will be made available to you in due course,” he added, further urging people to follow their social media platforms for more updates.

Hi guys, here are quick tips I want to share with you this week about adult Body Mass Index (BMI).

BMI is a person’s weight in kilogrammes (kg) divided by the square of height in metres. To get your square of height in metres, multiply your height by itself. Eg. 1.59m x 1.59m = 2.53m).

So, if your weight is 76kg and your square of height is 2.53m, your BMI is 30.0.

If your BMI is below 18.5, you fall in the underweight category. If it is between 18.5 and 25, you fall within the healthy weight range. If your BMI is 25 to 30, you fall within the overweight range. If your BMI is 30 or higher, you fall within the obesity range.

How do you improve your BMI if you’re overweight or obese?

1.Aim for at least five servings of fruit and vegetables a day. 2. Choose whole-grain cereal, pasta, rice and bread. 3.Avoid food that is high in sugar, like pastries, sweetened cereal, and soda or fruit-flavoured drinks.

7 effective and easy workouts for overweight or obese beginners:

• Walking. It should come as no surprise that walking is one of the best exercises to focus on if you’re looking to improve your fitness and lose weight.

• Modified push-ups

• Riding a stationary bike

• Side leg lifts

• Bridges

• Knee lifts with ball

• Modified squats

The most important lesson I learnt over the years is how bad sugar is. Processed foods and manufactured fats are bad for your body too. These are all ingredients commonly used in most cooking and baking recipes.
