Khumalo hoping for improved performance against Arrows

-

KAIZER Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge coach Vela Khumalo hope the youngsters’ first win against Orlando Pirates will inspire them to greater heights in their next fixture. Amakhosi registered an emphatic 3-0 over Soweto rivals, and now heading to the next game against Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium, they are looking at continuing with their impressive start.

“We played well, we stuck to our plan. However, one of the aspects we wanted to do in our checklist was the domination of the game, which we really did not dominate to the level we wanted. But it’s okay, it was our first game. We still need to improve going forward,” said coach Khumalo who was in charge of the team in the absence of Arthur Zwane.

“We set out our targets. We said we are going to score goals in certain moments and parts of the game, and we scored the goals we wanted to ease the pressure on us, considering the team was not so fit (this early in the season). Maybe in the next game there will be greater improvement in terms of dominating the game.”

Chiefs are among the teams that are yet to win the Diski Challenge title since it was introduced eight years ago. However, they have been among the teams that have produced exceptional talent, from Diski Challenge to the first and then the national team.

Amakhosi are expected to be among the top teams that will challenge for the title towards the end of the season. Their positive start against strong Pirates could be an indication that this season they will do well.

Khumalo added that the important thing is to win games.

He stressed: “The most important thing is winning. Winning brings confidence and domination to the game, which is what we want. The Chiefs way of winning with flair and style.”

Arrows, who have won the Diski Challenge title two times, are looking at getting their first three points of the season after playing to a 1-1 draw against AmaZulu in their opening fixture.
